Mbappé added a second goal after a brilliant solo effort, and completed his hat-trick in the second half with a low finish.
Despite late attempts from City, including a close free-kick hitting the crossbar, González’s goal came too late to change the outcome. Real Madrid now await their Round of 16 opponent, either Bayer Leverkusen or Atlético Madrid, in Friday’s draw.
