Al-Ettifaq Stumbles in Gulf Champions League Semi-Final First Leg Against Duhok

In a surprising turn of events, Al-Ettifaq’s first football team suffered a 1-0 defeat against Iraqi visitors Duhok in the first leg of the Gulf Champions League semi-final. The match took place on Wednesday evening at the “Ego” Stadium in Al-Ettifaq’s home ground in Dammam.

Despite controlling much of the game, Al-Ettifaq was unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Duhok seized the lead in the 43rd minute through Brazilian striker Marlon dos Santos, who connected with a precise cross from Karim Al-Abd Al-Dourish. Dos Santos rose above the defenders to head the ball into the net, scoring the only goal of the match.

In the second half, Al-Ettifaq pushed hard to equalize and improve their chances for the return leg. However, their efforts were in vain as they failed to break through Duhok’s defense. The match concluded with no further changes to the scoreline.

The two teams will face off again in the second leg next Wednesday, March 12, at Duhok’s home stadium in Iraq. Al-Ettifaq will need a strong performance to overturn the deficit and secure a spot in the final of the Gulf Champions League.
