Inter Miami Crashes Out of CONCACAF Champions League After Heavy Defeat to Vancouver

Inter Miami’s dream of lifting the 2025 CONCACAF Champions League trophy came to a crushing end as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps in the semifinal second leg, sealing a 5-1 aggregate loss. Despite the presence of Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez, the MLS side failed to mount a comeback, bowing out of the tournament in disappointing fashion.

Inter Miami started brightly, with Jordi Alba scoring an early opener in the 9th minute after a brilliant assist from Luis Suárez. The move was initiated by a trademark Messi pass, raising hopes of a potential turnaround. However, Vancouver quickly took control, responding with relentless attacks.

The Canadian side leveled before halftime and then dominated the second half with three well-executed goals. Sebastian Berhalter was the standout performer, assisting two goals before scoring the third himself in the 72nd minute. Brian White and Pedro Vite also found the net, exposing Inter Miami’s shaky defense.

Despite Messi’s efforts, Vancouver’s disciplined defense effectively shut him down, limiting his influence. Inter Miami’s defensive frailties were on full display as they struggled to cope with Vancouver’s high pressing and rapid counterattacks.

Vancouver advances to the CONCACAF Champions League final, where they will compete for continental glory. Meanwhile, Inter Miami must regroup and address their defensive issues ahead of future campaigns.

For Messi and his star-studded team, this exit marks a major setback, raising questions about their ability to compete at the highest level in North America.
