Saudi Giants Al-Hilal Part Ways with Portuguese Manager Jorge Jesus After Asian Cup Exit

Saudi Pro League powerhouse Al-Hilal has officially terminated the contract of Portuguese head coach Jorge Jesus following the team’s elimination from the AFC Champions League Elite semifinals and dwindling hopes of retaining their domestic league title.

The club announced the decision in an official statement on social media platform X, expressing gratitude for Jesus’ contributions since his return in July 2023. The 70-year-old manager, who led Al-Hilal to four trophies in his second stint, including a domestic treble last season, departs after 99 matches, with an impressive record of 80 wins, 10 draws, and only 9 losses.

Al-Hilal’s board has appointed former club legend Mohammed Al-Shalhoub as interim manager for the remaining Saudi Pro League fixtures. The decision comes days after a painful 2-3 defeat to domestic rivals Al-Ahli in the continental competition, further denting their season.

Currently second in the league with 62 points, Al-Hilal trails leaders Al-Ittihad by six points, making their title defense increasingly unlikely. Jesus leaves behind a legacy of success but exits amid a critical phase for the club as they seek a fresh direction.
