Bayern Munich Edges Closer to Bundesliga Title After Stalemate with Leverkusen

Bayern Munich held onto their lead in the German Bundesliga after a tense 0-0 draw against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, February 15, 2025. The result kept Bayern eight points clear at the top of the table, moving them closer to their 34th league title.

The match saw Leverkusen hit the crossbar twice in the first half, with Jeremie Frimpong and Nathan Tella coming close to scoring. Bayern, surprisingly, failed to record a single shot on target in the first half.

In the second half, Tella missed two golden chances to give Leverkusen the lead. Despite the draw, Bayern extended their points tally to 55, staying comfortably ahead of Leverkusen, who are second with 47 points.

Bayern’s coach, Vincent Kompany, handed Japanese defender Hiroki Ito his Bundesliga debut after he recovered from a leg injury. On the other side, Leverkusen’s coach Xabi Alonso made five changes to his lineup, leaving star strikers Victor Boniface and Patrik Schick on the bench.

Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, returned from injury and tested Bayern’s defense, but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer stood firm. Frimpong and Tella both hit the crossbar, denying Leverkusen a breakthrough. Jamal Musiala, who recently renewed contract with Bayern, had a quiet game.

Historically, Bayern has dominated Leverkusen, winning 60 of their 102 meetings, with Leverkusen winning just 22. Bayern has not beaten Leverkusen since a 4-0 victory in September 2022, with Leverkusen winning three of their last five encounters.
