Jorge Jesus, the current head coach of Saudi club Al-Hilal, has reportedly agreed to take charge of the Brazilian national team after the conclusion of the ongoing season. The news comes as the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) searches for a replacement for sacked manager Dorival Junior, who was dismissed following Brazil’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to Argentina in World Cup qualifiers.
Renowned transfer market journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Jesus has given his approval to coach the Seleção. However, the CBF is still evaluating the decision before finalizing the appointment. The federation is keen to resolve the managerial situation before the upcoming international break in June, where Brazil will face Ecuador and Paraguay in crucial qualifiers.
Initially, the CBF had targeted Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti as their top choice, but the Italian manager is unavailable until at least July due to his commitments with the Spanish giants. With Ancelotti out of reach for now, Jesus has emerged as the leading candidate.
Dorival Junior’s dismissal came after a string of poor results, leaving Brazil in fourth place in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings with just 21 points. The heavy loss to Argentina was the final blow, prompting the CBF to seek a new direction under an experienced coach like Jesus.
The 69-year-old Portuguese manager has had a successful stint with Al-Hilal and brings a wealth of experience from clubs like Benfica, Flamengo, and Sporting CP. If appointed, he will face immediate pressure to revive Brazil’s fortunes ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The CBF is expected to make an official announcement soon, with Jesus likely taking over after completing his duties with Al-Hilal this season.
