The Saudi King’s Cup Round of 16 delivered a mix of dominant performances and hard-fought victories on Monday and Tuesday, with top-tier clubs securing their places in the quarter-finals. Al-hilal and Al-Qadsiah recorded comfortable wins.

Retegui and Quiñones Lead Al-Qadsiah to 3-1 Win

In a high-scoring affair, Al-Qadsiah overcame a brief early scare to defeat Al-Hazem 3-1 and advance. Al-Hazem took a surprising lead just nine minutes into the contest through Nawaf Al Habashi.

However, the lead was short-lived as Al-Qadsiah responded swiftly. Mateo Retegui found the equalizer in the 22nd minute, sending the sides into the break level. The home team took control in the second half, with Julian Quiñones netting to put them ahead in the 54th minute. Mohammed Abu Al Shamat then struck in the 63rd minute to put the result beyond doubt, ensuring Al-Qadsiah’s progression.

Carrasco Penalty Edges Al-Shabab Past Al-Zulfi

The most tense match of the day saw Al-Shabab scrape a narrow 1-0 victory over Al-Zulfi, with a single goal proving enough to settle the contest. The decisive moment came in the 35th minute when the referee awarded Al-Shabab a penalty. Belgian international Yannick Carrasco stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick, making it the only goal of the encounter.

Al-Shabab’s defence held firm for the remainder of the match to withstand the pressure from Al-Zulfi, securing their passage to the quarter-finals and keeping their hopes of a fourth King’s Cup title alive.

Separately, Al-Hilal also advanced with a narrow 1-0 win over Al-Akhdoud, thanks to a penalty from Marcos Leonardo.
