Aguerd’s Header Ends PSG’s Undefeated Streak and Marseille’s Derby Drought

In a dramatic French “Classique,” Olympique Marseille broke their long-standing curse against arch-rivals Paris Saint-Germain, securing a 1-0 victory in the final match of the fifth round of the league. The match, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, was postponed 24 hours due to adverse weather conditions.

The decisive goal came early in the game, in the 5th minute, from a powerful header by Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd. His goal not only gave Marseille a crucial win but also ended their 12-match winless streak against PSG at home, a period that saw PSG win nine times and three matches end in a draw.

The loss marks PSG’s first defeat of the season. Their total points remain at 12, dropping them to second place on goal difference behind leaders Monaco. For Marseille, the victory lifts them to sixth place with 9 points, providing a welcome rebound after their recent Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

After conceding, PSG pressed hard for an equalizer, but Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli made a series of crucial saves against Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz. Marseille also had a chance to double their lead when a fierce shot by Algerian forward Amine Gouiri struck the crossbar, and a second goal by Benjamin Pavard was disallowed by VAR for offside.

In the second half, PSG increased their pressure, but Rulli continued to be a hero for Marseille, making key saves against Achraf Hakimi and Vitinha. Both teams made substitutions, but neither side could change the scoreline. PSG’s manager, Luis Enrique, who won the “Best Coach” award at the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony, was unable to find a way to break through Marseille’s resolute defense.
