Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ahli have officially addressed their position regarding participation in the upcoming Saudi Super Cup, ending recent speculation surrounding the “Fortress of Cups”.
The confirmation comes directly after Saudi champions Al-Hilal formally withdrew from the competition. Al-Hilal’s exit, communicated via an official letter to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), positioned Al-Ahli as the prime replacement candidate.
In an official statement posted on the club’s verified account on the social media platform ‘X’, Al-Ahli announced:
“Al-Ahli Company received an official letter from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to participate in the Super Cup, scheduled to be held from August 19 to 23.”
This statement resolves the uncertainty that had built up over the preceding hours concerning Al-Ahli’s final stance on the tournament. With Al-Hilal’s withdrawal confirmed, Al-Ahli is now the frontrunner to fill the vacant spot in the four-team competition.
The Saudi Super Cup, featuring the league champions, King’s Cup winners, and league runners-up, is set to take place in the final week of August. Al-Ahli’s participation, while now formally requested by the SAFF, is expected to be confirmed following standard procedures after receiving the official invitation.
