Arsenal Foils Real Madrid’s Bid for Star Defender Saliba

Arsenal has moved to block Real Madrid from signing one of its key defensive targets. According to reports from the British newspaper “The Athletic,” William Saliba, the 24-year-old French international defender, has reached an agreement to sign a new long-term contract with the London club.

Saliba, who currently has two years left on his contract, was a strong target for Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have been facing a defensive crisis in recent seasons due to frequent injuries to key players like Eder Militao and David Alaba, as well as errors from young defender Raul Asensio.

However, “The Athletic” confirmed that the French star is eager to stay with the Gunners and is set to sign a new deal in the coming days.

Saliba originally joined Arsenal in the summer of 2019 from Saint-Étienne. He spent three seasons on loan in France at Saint-Étienne, Nice, and Olympique Marseille before finally returning to the club in the summer of 2022. Since then, he has become a cornerstone of Arsenal’s defense, solidifying his place as a vital player for the team.
